Sunday 1st May - Downtown

Today we planned to go to get my bike helmet. We head out on the scooter and go further than I have been before. The roads are way busier, faster and my ass hurts from sitting for so long. We eventually arrive at the bike helmet shop. Only one problem, the shutter is down, according to Eve shops in Taiwan don't close like they do in the UK and you can pretty much guarantee they will be open (unless ofcourse it is this shop). So we scoot off back toward Tanzi and take a right at the baseball stadium and head towards the other bike helmet shop.

We arrive after a short while and guess what? It is closed. Again Eve mentions that it is strange that the shops will be closed like this in Taiwan as they are never. I tell her she will have to change her saying to the shops are always open except the bike helmet ones. I am starting to think that I am not meant to get a helmet. We have travelled quite a bit and it has been fruitless, to top it all off her mum was not happy at us travelling so far so I doubt she will be happy that we ended up doing it for nothing.

This is near where we live but really early in the morning, when it is empty, a complete difference later on and in the evening is even busier, but it looks cool at night with all the neon lights.

Eve's parents where at a wedding party so we have cool cakes to try and they mention about icelollies. I wash the rice again with Lee Yuan's help and afterwards I want to try one of the icelollies, they are red bean popsicles (I have to admit I thought they would be horrible but they are really nice)

Here is some differences in Taiwan: Lynx is called Axe, I don't know why but I am sure it is something to do with the translation being unlucky or rude or something. Red lights also flash, which appears to mean you can go if you want to and there is a space but if not just wait. One of the coolest things is the crossings, they display how much time you have in seconds, they show a slow walking green man and when it gets to 8 seconds he runs like his life depends on it and judging by the traffic you should copy him.

Relaxing at home we are summoned to a family meeting to discuss the matters at hand. It is strange for me as I don't speak enough of the language so I just sit there confused. Eve translates some stuff to me but to be honest I just want to go to bed. After it finishes we return home. A strange experience but an experience non-the-less.
